11/2 Weekly Updates

Here are this week/month’s updates and reminders.

1st Marking Period - This Friday will be the end of the1st  Marking Period.  Grades will be sent out the following Monday (11/9).

Picture Retake Day - is Nov 3rd.  Any parent who would like their child to retake their school photo, please let me know so that I can notify the school. 

PTO dress down - Students may dress down on Nov 13th if their parents come to this month PTO meeting.  

Dress Down for Troops - Nov 12th - We are doing a fundraiser for our Military Troops.  Students can wear jeans for a donation of $5.00 

Breast Cancer Dress Down  - Tuesday, Nov 4th.  Please donate at least $2.00 min. and the students can dress down in PINK only.  Proceeds will go to The American Cancer Society 

Veterans Day - Wednesday, NOVEMBER 11th - NO SCHOOL!

1st MP Awards Ceremony - The awards ceremony for grade K-3 will be on Thursday, Nov. 12 at 1:30pm in the gym. 

Diwali Assembly - It has been changed from Nov 6 to Nov 10th. It will be the same time, 1:15 - 2:15pm.

Columbus Day

No school!

Farm Trip

Our field trip is this week! So exciting! I have chosen 2 chaperones and contacted them already. Thanks to all who volunteered! Students can wear jeans and their regular uniform polo, with sneakers on the day of the trip. Please send students with a disposable lunch. 

Parent Teacher Conferences

I will be sending out time slots for Parent-Teacher Conferences next week via Sign-Up Genius. Conferences will be Oct. 21 and 22.  

Halloween

Our Halloween Party is on Oct. 30! Please let me know if you could send in any treats with your child. I will be doing activities with them throughout the day!

Think Central

We have been in constant contact with the company and the issue should be resolved by next week.  So sorry for the delays!

Unit Project

I sent home a paper earlier in the week describing the Unit Project, which will count for a LA and SS grade.  Please look it over with your child.  We talked about it in class as well.  The project is due to be presented on Oct. 30.

ThinkCentral Problem

The school is aware that Science Fusion on Think Central is not working properly.  We are working hard to fix the problem.  We are hoping to have it working by next week. Thanks for your patience!

Farm Trip

If you have not done so yet, please send in your child’s farm trip permission slip and payment.  I just ask that you include the slip and money in an envelope or a baggie so that it does not get lost of confused.  I will be picking my chaperones "out of hat" on Monday from   those that volunteered!

Halloween

We will be celebrating on Friday October 30.  Our class party will be from 12:30 to 1:15.  Please let me know if you would like to volunteer to help organize the celebration! The school also will need volunteers from each class to bring their cars for Trunk or Treat.  Please let me know if you would like to volunteer for that as well!

Parent Review Folders

As many of you have seen, Parent Review Folders will go home on Fridays with any tests from the previous week.  Please make sure you review with your child any misunderstandings and then send the tests back to me for the student files.  

Extra Clothes

The school nurse is asking students to bring in an extra pair of clothes for students in case of emergency, so that parents don’t have to rush to bring clothes.  Please have your child bring in these clothes in a plastic bag to keep in their cubby.  

Brooklyn Nets Game

Come Share our excitement with our students performance! 

Our FOLK  DANCE TEAM has the unique opportunity to showcase their talents at the Brooklyn Nets vs Fenerbahce Preseason Game on Monday, October 5. We have tickets available for parents/students to purchase if you would like to attend. Tickets for parents and  their family members are $45/ticket (special price for TEECS Family, actual cost of the ticket is $55 ) and extra $5 for bus* transportation to and from the game. The bus will arrive at the school by 4:00 pm to take us to the game.

9-29: Reading Skill Info

Good afternoon,

I just wanted to reach out to parents because this week’s reading skill is a little bit more difficult than the past few weeks.  As some of you may have noticed, our skill this week is Text and Graphic Features.  This simply means using the various texts (words) and graphics (pictures) in a story to help understand the story better.  This week’s weekly story is “Lucia’s Neighborhood”.  It is a non-fiction text that gives information about a topic (the main character’s neighborhood).  

I have attached a document that gives some examples of text features and their purposes.  Please use these tools for better understanding and helping your child at home.  Graphic features would just be an pictures, drawings, or images in a story. 

You will also notice that the Read Log Summary for this week is a chart that highlights Text and Graphic Features as well. 

Also, just a quick note: students have written in their planners that this Thursday 10/1 is our Unit 1 Science test.  Our regular weekly LA test and Spelling Quiz will be on Friday.
